Dror Varsano Contributes his Varsano Family’s History

The following text has been incorporated into the Bulgaria and Israel Sections of the Varsano Family History Section:

My father, Herzl Varsano, who passed away about a year ago at 86, was born in 1937 in Sofia, Bulgaria. He and his family came to Israel in 1949, they lived in a Maabara (new immigrants camp) near Pardes Hana and then moved to Ramat Gan. He and my mother were wed in 1961 and have lived in Petach Tikva since then. He worked his whole life at El-Al – Israeli airlines – starting as an avionics mechanic and retiring as head of avionics.

My father had an older brother – Nissim Varsano, also born in Bulgaria in 1932. He had 2 sons – Eitan Maoz, a father of 3, and Ohad Varsano, a father to one.

I have 2 older sisters – Tamar Varsano, mother to a 15 year old, who lives in Ramat Gan and works as a teacher; and Yael Varsano Barzilay, mother to 2 children aged 27 and 25, who lives in Hod Hasharon and works at HR in a bank.

Further down the line, my paternal grandfather was named Yosef Varsano, born in Hanuka 1899 in Sofia Bulgaria and died in 1979, in Israel. He was a musician and amateur choir conductor. As far as I know his parents were named Hezkia and Sara Varsano and were also born in Bulgaria

My paternal grandmother was named Bucca-Dina Varsano (nee Lilo) and she was born in Sliven Bulgaria in 1904 and died in Israel in 1963. Her parents were named Moshe and Sara Lilo and they lived in Sliven Bulgaria. Moshe was a cheese maker there, and during WW2 the family, which were banished from Sofia, stayed with him in Sliven. He lived long enough to come to Israel in 1949.

Thank you to Dror Varsano for adding to the history of the Varsano family.
