The following is a compilation of persons with the Varsano surname that were victims of the Holocaust during World War II. Common misspellings of the Varsano name are listed. Warsano was common in the German files since “W” is pronounced like “V” in German. Versano is also a common misspelling along with other variations. Each name links to the Yad Vashem page of the victim. Approximately 124 Varsano Family members were murdered during the Holocaust, mostly at Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland after being deported from their home country of Greece, Bulgaria, or France.

Greece

Approximately 113 Varsano Family members originating from Greece were murdered in the Shoah, only 7 survived WWII.

Bulgaria

Approximately 7 Varsano Family members originating from Bulgaria were murdered in the Shoah, most survived WWII. Most of the Jews of Bulgaria survived the Shoah. The persons listed below as “survived,” were listed because a family member or the survivor contributed to Yad Vashem with details of their Holocaust experience. The majority of the murdered Varsanos of Bulgaria were in the so called new territories of Bulgaria, mostly Thrace (Northern Macedonia).

France

Approximately 4 Varsano Family members living in France were murdered in the Shoah, none survived WWII.
